Manage Homepage Carousel

The homepage carousel is the main rotating slider visitors see when they first land on the website. This guide covers managing carousel content: images, videos, and call-to-action text—using SharePoint.

What you'll accomplish: Add, update, or remove carousel slides that rotate on the website homepage.

Time required: 5-10 minutes per carousel update

What you need:

  • Access to SharePoint (Website assets directory)

  • Carousel media assets (images and/or videos)

  • Call-to-action text content (optional)

The homepage carousel displays rotating slides to website visitors. Each slide can contain:

  • An image, OR

  • A video, OR

  • A combination of both

Plus optional:

  • Call-to-action text overlay on any slide

The carousel is dynamic:

  • Content changes on a rotation basis

  • Sometimes all images, sometimes all videos, sometimes mixed

  • Slides are added, modified, or removed regularly

  • No fixed number of slides required

Where You're Working

SharePoint Directory:

Inside Main Carousel Slider:

  • Images folder (for carousel image slides)

  • Videos folder (for carousel video slides)

  • Content Text folder (for call-to-action text overlays)

Important: Folder names must NOT change.

Folder Structure

Key point: The 3 subfolders are available, but assets within them are not required. Create carousel content based on what you need for the current rotation.

File Requirements by Folder

Images Folder

Minimum dimensions:

  • Width: 1430 px

  • Height: 730 px

  • Must meet minimum - larger is fine

Supported file types:

  • WEBP

  • JPG

  • JPEG

Image quality:

  • Use highest quality possible

  • This is the first thing visitors see - make it premium

File naming:

  • Flexible naming allowed

  • Make file names fairly obvious and clear

  • Highly recommended: Use sequential numbering for slide ordering

    • Example: 01-hero-slide.jpg, 02-featured-collection.webp, 03-new-arrival.jpg

    • Or: slide-01.jpg, slide-02.jpg, slide-03.jpg

Purpose: Main carousel images that rotate on the homepage.

Videos Folder

Supported file types:

  • .mp4

  • .mov

  • Only these two formats - no other video types accepted

File naming:

  • Must be clear and easy to understand placement

  • Highly recommended: Use sequential numbering for slide ordering

    • Example: 01-intro-video.mp4, 02-collection-showcase.mov, 03-designer-feature.mp4

    • Or: video-slide-01.mp4, video-slide-02.mp4

Video quality:

  • Use highest quality available

  • Optimize for web (balance file size vs quality)

  • First impression matters - premium production value

Purpose: Main carousel videos that rotate on the homepage.

Content Text Folder

Supported file types:

  • Word documents (.doc, .docx)

  • PDFs (.pdf)

  • Text files (.txt)

Content format:

  • Each slide's CTA text should be titled/labeled clearly

  • Structure: "Slider 1", "Slider 2", "Slider 3", etc.

  • Example in a Word doc:

File naming:

  • Descriptive names

  • Examples: carousel-cta-text.docx, homepage-slider-copy.pdf, carousel-overlays.txt

Purpose: Call-to-action text that overlays on carousel slides. Each slide can have its own CTA, or you can skip CTAs entirely for some/all slides.

Understanding Slide Ordering

How slides display on the carousel:

  • Slides rotate in sequential order based on file numbering

  • Lower numbers display first: 010203 → loops back to 01

Sequential numbering examples:

Images only carousel:

Videos only carousel:

Mixed carousel:

  • Number files across both folders

  • Example: Image 01-..., Video 02-..., Image 03-...

  • System reads all files and orders by number

Without sequential numbering:

  • Files display in alphabetical order by filename

  • Less predictable ordering

  • Recommendation: Always use sequential numbers for control

1. Open SharePoint

2. Navigate to:

3. You should see the 3 subfolders:

  • Images

  • Videos

  • Content Text

Decide what type of carousel you're creating:

Option A: All images

  • Upload images only

  • No videos needed

  • CTAs optional

Option B: All videos

  • Upload videos only

  • No images needed

  • CTAs optional

Option C: Mixed images and videos

  • Upload both image and video files

  • Use sequential numbering across both

  • CTAs optional

Option D: Any of the above with call-to-action text

  • Upload images and/or videos

  • Plus upload CTA text file

Step 3: Upload Images (If Using)

1. Navigate into the "Images" folder

2. Click "Upload" > Files

3. Select your carousel images

  • WEBP, JPG, or JPEG files

  • Minimum 1430 x 730 px

  • Highest quality available

  • Sequential naming recommended

4. Files upload to the folder

Example file structure:

Step 4: Upload Videos (If Using)

1. Navigate to the "Videos" folder

2. Click "Upload" > Files

3. Select your carousel videos

  • .mp4 or .mov only

  • Sequential naming recommended

  • Clear, descriptive file names

4. Files upload to the folder

Note: Video files may take longer to upload depending on size.

Example file structure:

Step 5: Upload CTA Text (If Using)

1. Navigate to the "Content Text" folder

2. Click "Upload" > Files

3. Select your CTA content file

  • Word doc, PDF, or text file

  • Contains text for each slider, labeled "Slider 1", "Slider 2", etc.

4. File uploads to the folder

Example content file structure:

Number of CTAs should match number of slides:

  • 3 slides total? → Label Slider 1, Slider 2, Slider 3

  • 5 slides total? → Label Slider 1 through Slider 5

Step 6: Verify Setup

Check carousel content:

What Happens Next

After uploading carousel content:

  1. Files saved in SharePoint

  2. System monitors for triggered events

  3. Backend detects new/modified carousel assets

  4. Website processes the content

  5. Carousel updates on homepage

Check the website: Visit the homepage to see the carousel rotating with your new slides.

Sync timing: Changes process when triggered events occur (additions, modifications, deletions).

To replace slides with new content:

1. Navigate to the appropriate folder (Images or Videos)

2. Delete the current files

  • Select files to remove

  • Click Delete

3. Upload new files

  • Click Upload > Files

  • Select new carousel content

  • Use sequential numbering

What happens:

  • System detects changes

  • Backend processes updates

  • Homepage carousel displays new slides

To add additional slides without removing current ones:

1. Navigate to Images or Videos folder

2. Check existing file numbering

  • See what numbers are already used

  • Example: If you have 01-slide.jpg and 02-slide.jpg

3. Upload new files with next sequential numbers

  • Add 03-slide.jpg, 04-slide.jpg, etc.

  • Or insert between existing: rename others and add new numbers

What happens:

  • New slides added to rotation

  • Carousel now has more slides

Update CTA Text

To change call-to-action text overlays:

1. Navigate to Content Text folder

2. Delete current CTA file

3. Upload updated CTA file

  • Same format: Slider 1, Slider 2, etc.

  • Updated text content

What happens:

  • System detects change

  • New CTA text displays on slides

To reduce number of slides:

1. Navigate to Images or Videos folder

2. Delete the slide files you want to remove

What happens:

  • System detects deletions

  • Carousel displays fewer slides

  • Remaining slides continue rotating

The carousel content changes regularly. Here's how to switch between different carousel types:

From All Images to All Videos

1. Navigate to Images folder

  • Delete all image files

2. Navigate to Videos folder

  • Upload new video files

  • Use sequential numbering

Result: Carousel now displays only videos.

From All Videos to All Images

1. Navigate to Videos folder

  • Delete all video files

2. Navigate to Images folder

  • Upload new image files

  • Use sequential numbering

Result: Carousel now displays only images.

From Single Type to Mixed

1. Keep existing files in one folder (Images or Videos)

2. Add files to the other folder

  • Use sequential numbering across both

Example:

Result: Carousel rotates through image, then two videos.

From Mixed to Single Type

1. Delete all files from one folder (keep the other)

Result: Carousel displays only the remaining type.

Important Notes

Folder Names Must Not Change

The 3 subfolders must remain named exactly:

  • Images (not "image" or "Carousel Images")

  • Videos (not "video" or "Carousel Videos")

  • Content Text (not "Text" or "CTA Content")

Why? Backend system looks for these exact folder names.

Assets Are Not Required

Unlike other sections, you don't need all 3 asset types:

  • Carousel can be images only

  • Carousel can be videos only

  • Carousel can be mixed

  • CTAs are always optional

Flexibility: Create whatever carousel rotation makes sense for current marketing needs.

Sequential Numbering is Critical

For predictable slide ordering:

  • Always use sequential numbers: 01, 02, 03, etc.

  • Keep numbering consistent

  • Lower numbers display first

Without sequential numbering:

  • Files display alphabetically

  • Unpredictable ordering

  • Harder to control rotation sequence

Image Dimensions Must Meet Minimum

1430 x 730 px is the minimum:

  • Smaller images will be rejected or display incorrectly

  • Larger is acceptable (will be scaled down)

Why these dimensions? Optimized for homepage carousel display across devices.

CTA Text Labeling

Structure your CTA file clearly:

Match slider numbers to total slides:

  • 3 slides? → Slider 1, Slider 2, Slider 3

  • 5 slides? → Slider 1 through Slider 5

Each slide can have different CTA or you can skip CTAs on certain slides.

Rotation Basis Means Regular Changes

The carousel is designed to change frequently:

  • Seasonal updates

  • New collection launches

  • Promotional periods

  • Designer collaborations

  • Special events

Plan for regular content swaps rather than "set it and forget it."

Troubleshooting

Issue: Uploaded images but carousel not displaying them

Solutions:

  • Verify images are in "Images" folder (not main directory)

  • Check dimensions are at least 1430 x 730 px

  • Confirm file types are WEBP, JPG, or JPEG

  • Ensure files have sequential numbering

Issue: Slides displaying in wrong order

Solutions:

  • Check file naming - are they sequentially numbered?

  • Verify numbering: 01, 02, 03 (not 1, 2, 3)

  • Ensure numbering is consistent across Images and Videos

  • Delete files and re-upload with correct numbering

Issue: CTA text not appearing on slides

Solutions:

  • Verify CTA file is in "Content Text" folder

  • Check file is labeled: Slider 1, Slider 2, etc.

  • Ensure number of CTAs matches number of slides

  • Confirm file type is Word, PDF, or text

  • Try deleting and re-uploading CTA file

Issue: Some slides showing, others not

Solutions:

  • Check all files have proper sequential numbering

  • Verify no gaps in numbering (01, 02, 04 - missing 03)

  • Ensure all files meet requirements (dimensions, file types)

  • Look for any auto-rejection issues

Best Practices

File Naming Strategy

For Seasonal Updates

Quality Standards

Winter Collection Carousel (Mixed Content):

Rotation sequence:

  1. Winter hero image with CTA

  2. Collection walkthrough video with CTA

  3. Holiday sale image with CTA

  4. Loops back to slide 1

Pro tip: Create a "Carousel Assets" folder on your local computer to organize upcoming carousel content before uploading. Structure it with Images, Videos, and Content Text subfolders matching SharePoint. This lets you prepare entire carousel rotations, get approvals, check sequencing, and then upload everything at once. Keep archives of past carousels for easy reuse during similar seasons or promotions next year.
